When seat-invite email soft-fails versus signing invite

A Team seat invite and a signing invite can both say Invite email was not sent. Copy inviteUrl on Team, signingUrl on the envelope. That is seat-invite-soft-fail-versus-signing honesty — same skip, different object.

Inkpacket uses one honest mail sentence on two desks. Team can say Invite email was not sent — copy the link and share it. A sent envelope can say Signing link is ready. Invite email was not sent — copy the link and share it. A Web Form fill can say The invite email was not sent. Use the signing link below. The skip is the same. The object is not. That is seat-invite-soft-fail-versus-signing honesty: copy inviteUrl from Team, copy signingUrl from the envelope, and do not treat one URL as the other because the banner rhymes.

The seat skip alone is when workspace invite email soft-fails. The two objects without the email fork are workspace team invite versus signing invite. The envelope retry is resend after a soft-fail email and copy the signing link after mail skips. Desk help splits the pair: Docs and Docs. This guide is the email skip on both sides in one place.

The FAQ says invite links are a real link you can copy even before mail is live. Ask Inkpacket for when seat-invite email soft-fails versus signing invite to open this article. Ask how to invite a teammate to open Team help. Ask how does invite email work to open the mail section. Those phrases stay on the product screens. This article is the public version of which box to copy.

Copy the URL in front of you

  • Team: A team invite returns inviteUrl, emailSent, and emailError. Open /desk/team#invites.
  • Envelope: send returns signingUrl. The copy box is /desk/documents/:id#signing-link.
  • Web Form fill: the public page shows a signing link when mail skips. That is still an envelope URL.
  • emailConfigured on GET /api/v1/health and Settings #email is the same flag for every outbound path.

A teammate who opens a signing URL cannot join the workspace. A signer who opens an invite URL cannot finish an envelope. Do not paste the Team link into a vendor thread. Do not paste the envelope link into Slack as “your seat.” If you created two rows because the first email never arrived, you now have two outstanding Team invites — revoke the extra, do not resend the envelope. Planning team seats is why that second row is not a seat-cap refusal.

What each skip is not

  • Not a seat-cap HTTP status. Invite does not refuse when a workspace is full.
  • Not HTTP 402 ENVELOPE_LIMIT. A seat invite is not a send.
  • Not a void. The envelope still exists. The seat row still exists.
  • Not a text. Text-message (SMS) is coming soon. Reminders go out by email today.

When Resend is missing, first invite, reminder, decline notice, and seat invite all log instead of sending. The desk does not pretend mail was delivered. Correct and resend on a sent envelope show the same copyable signing link. They do not rotate a Team inviteUrl. Correct an envelope mid-flight is the recipient verb on an envelope, not a seat.

The click-path

  1. If you invited a teammate, stay on /desk/team. Copy inviteUrl. Share that URL.
  2. If you sent an envelope, stay on that document. Copy the signing link.
  3. Do not open Billing to unlock mail. Checkout is not open and does not configure Resend.
  4. Do not mint a twin Team invite to “retry email.”
  5. Do not create a second envelope because the first invite email was not sent.

On a phone, Team and Documents are drawer rows. Ask Inkpacket for team on mobile or documents on mobile to open the screen. Help is Docs. After they accept a seat they can send. Members still cannot invite. After a signer finishes, file the stamped PDF. Those are still two products that happened to share a mail skip.

Settings does not merge them

From and Reply-To on Settings #email apply when mail is live. They do not pick which object went out. Settings email From and Reply-To is that card. A missing key still leaves both URLs copyable. Drive archive still waits for a completed envelope. Stripe off: Payments not live. None of those flags turn a seat URL into a signing token.

Caps and what is not open yet

A seat invite is not a send. The envelopes that teammate later issues will count. A signing invite that already went out already counted. Free allows 5 packets a month. Free at 5 packets a month is the live cap desk send, bulk rows, Web Form fills, and API send share. Hitting it returns HTTP 402 ENVELOPE_LIMIT. Starter is 20 envelopes — more than Free — plus 3 published Web Forms. Seat counts are planning numbers; invite does not refuse when a workspace is full.

Billing is published, not charging. Checkout is not open. Text-message (SMS) is coming soon. Drive missing: Drive not configured. Stripe off: Payments not live. Those flags do not deliver either email or swap the two URLs. The FAQ and FAQ use Invite email was not sent in the same words.

Copy the object in front of you. Stay on that row or that envelope. Open a workspace on Free — see published pricing — or sign in and run one throwaway seat and one throwaway send so the two skips are a pair you have watched.
