Resend after a soft-fail email

When Inkpacket skip-logs a signing invite, Envelope admin Resend emails the same token again — or logs again. The envelope stays. That resend-after-soft-fail honesty is not a second envelope and not a seat invite.

Desk send, bulk send, Web Form fills, and POST /api/v1/packets/:id/send create the envelope even when outbound email fails. When RESEND_API_KEY is missing — or Resend rejects the recipient — the desk reports Resend not configured and says Signing link is ready. Invite email was not sent — copy the link and share it. It does not pretend mail was delivered. Envelope admin Resend on that same sent envelope tries the existing signing email again. If the key is still missing, Resend logs the same way. That is resend-after-soft-fail honesty: the verb is retry-mail, not mint-a-twin.

When to pick the verb is when to void, correct, or resend an envelope. The three-way fork with decline is correct, void, or decline an envelope. A seat URL that skipped mail is when workspace invite email soft-fails — a different object. Desk help is Docs and Docs. This guide is the signing-invite skip plus the Resend button on that envelope.

GET /api/v1/health reports emailConfigured. Settings #email shows the same flag. Send returns emailSent and emailError next to signingUrl and embedUrl. Resend and correct use the same honesty. The signing link stays copyable. Ask Inkpacket for how to resend or invite email was not sent to open those sections.

What still happened

  • The envelope exists. Status is SENT. The monthly envelope already counted.
  • signingUrl and embedUrl are on the desk and on the API response.
  • emailSent is false when mail did not go out.
  • A Web Form fill says The invite email was not sent. Use the signing link below.

Copy the URL. Share it on a second channel. Do not create a second envelope because the first email never arrived — that is a second envelope toward the cap and a second audit trail. Do not open Billing to “unlock mail.” Checkout is not open and does not configure Resend. Do not void the envelope because the inbox was quiet. Void kills the token you still need.

Resend then

Resend emails the existing signing link to outstanding invited signer(s). The envelope id stays. The token stays unless you also corrected the email. Resend is idempotent: it does not duplicate the envelope. If mail is still not configured, the desk still shows the link and says Invite email was not sent — copy the link and share it. You did not fail twice at creating the envelope. You failed twice at SMTP. Stay on the copy box.

Correct is the wrong tool for a soft-fail. Correct updates the outstanding signer’s name or email and retires the previous token if the address changes. Use it when the address is wrong, not when the address never received a message that was never sent. Envelope admin keeps those verbs on the same document.

Same sentence, different object

A Team invite that skips mail is a seat URL. A signing invite that skips mail is an envelope URL. A Web Form fill that skips mail still created a sent envelope — copy that signing link from the fill page or the document, not from Team. SMS is a third skip: Text-message (SMS) is coming soon. Text-message reminders are coming soon does not fix email. Text-message (SMS) is coming soon. Reminders go out by email today. Inkpacket does not text a signing link.

Bulk marks a row sent when the envelope exists. Open that document and copy the link if mail did not go out. Do not start the job again to “retry email.” Retries skip rows that already sent. The skip you want is Resend on the row’s envelope.

The click-path

  1. After send, read Signing link is ready. Invite email was not sent.
  2. Copy signingUrl immediately. Share it.
  3. If you later want another mail attempt, open Envelope admin Resend on that document.
  4. If Resend still logs, copy the same URL. Do not POST send again.
  5. If the address was wrong, Correct — not Resend, and not a twin create.

POST /api/v1/packets/:id/resend is the same verb. A reminder job is not Resend. The job walks outstanding SENT envelopes on the cadence you set. If mail is missing, reminders log too. Copy the link once and stop expecting the cron to invent a mailbox. Reminder cadence versus envelope expiry is that pair.

What Resend cannot do

  • Cannot revive an expired, declined, voided, or completed envelope.
  • Cannot email a later sequential signer who has not been invited yet.
  • Cannot configure Resend. emailConfigured is an install flag.
  • Cannot spend a second envelope. A second POST send can.

Caps and what is not open yet

Resend is not a send. The send that created the envelope already counted. Free allows 5 packets a month. Free at 5 packets a month is the live cap desk send, bulk rows, Web Form fills, and API send share. Hitting it returns HTTP 402 ENVELOPE_LIMIT. Starter is 20 envelopes — more than Free — plus 3 published Web Forms. Seat counts are planning numbers; invite does not refuse when a workspace is full.

Billing is published, not charging. Checkout is not open. Text-message (SMS) is coming soon. Drive missing: Drive not configured. Stripe off: Payments not live. None of those flags deliver the first invite. The FAQ and More on sending use Invite email was not sent in the same words.

Send. Copy the link when mail skips. Resend the same token if you want another attempt. Stay on that envelope id. Then file the stamped PDF after they sign — the skip was honesty, not a missing envelope. Open a workspace on Free — see published pricing — and practice a throwaway send with mail off so the sentence is familiar before a real signer waits on it.
