Workspace team invite versus signing invite

An Inkpacket Team invite is a seat URL. A signing invite is an envelope URL. Both can say Invite email was not sent. Only the envelope counts as an envelope. That is invite-object honesty.

Inkpacket uses the same honest mail skip on two different objects. A Team invite creates a seat URL. A signing invite creates an envelope URL. When RESEND_API_KEY is missing — or Resend rejects the recipient — both surfaces can say Invite email was not sent. Copy the URL that belongs to that object. Do not paste a signing link into Team. Do not paste inviteUrl into an envelope. That is invite-object honesty: same sentence, different product.

The seat skip is when workspace invite email soft-fails. The envelope skip is resend after a soft-fail email. Planning the roster is planning team seats. Desk help splits the same pair: Docs and Docs. This guide is the fork itself.

Ask Inkpacket for how to invite a teammate to open Team help. Ask invite teammate to open the form. Ask invite email was not sent when you meant the signing-link copy box. Those phrases stay on the product screens. This article is the public version of why one skip is a seat and the other is an envelope.

The two objects

  • Team invite — A team invite. Returns inviteUrl, emailSent, and emailError. Not an envelope.
  • Signing invite — desk send, a bulk row, a Web Form fill, or POST /api/v1/packets/:id/send. Returns signingUrl. Counts as an envelope.
  • Seat counts are planning numbers; invite does not refuse when a workspace is full.
  • A signer finishes on a tokenized link without joining the workspace.

Owner and admin open Team at /desk/team#invite. Email plus Member or Admin. Members can send envelopes. They cannot invite. The teammate who accepts the seat URL operates the desk. The person who opens a signing URL marks a PDF. Mixing those jobs is how an operator never gets access and a signer gets a Team email they cannot use.

Same sentence, different box

Team shows Invite email was not sent and the inviteUrl to copy. A sent envelope shows Signing link is ready. Invite email was not sent — copy the link and share it. A Web Form fill says The invite email was not sent. Use the signing link below. Copy from that page or from the document, not from Team.

Envelope admin Resend retries the signing email on that envelope id. It does not email a teammate. Team has no Resend button that mints a second seat. If the seat mail skipped, copy inviteUrl again. Do not create a second organization because the first invite logged emailError. That would split templates, envelopes, and the monthly envelope count you actually share.

What each cannot do

  • A Team invite cannot collect a signature. There is no PDF on that URL.
  • A signing invite cannot add a desk seat. The signer never creates an account.
  • Correct on an envelope updates the outstanding signer — not a teammate role.
  • Voiding an envelope does not remove a Team row. Removing a member does not void their outstanding envelopes.

SMS is a third skip on the envelope only: Text-message (SMS) is coming soon. Team does not text a seat URL. Drive archive waits for a completed envelope, not for a teammate to accept. Stripe off: Payments not live. None of those flags deliver either invite.

Caps are not seats

Adding a person does not spend the monthly send cap. Sending an envelope does. Free allows 5 packets a month. Free at 5 packets a month is the live cap. Hitting it returns HTTP 402 ENVELOPE_LIMIT on send, a bulk row, a Web Form fill, or API send — never on A team invite. There is no seat-cap HTTP status in this pass.

Pricing publishes Free 1, Starter 3, Growth 10, Agency 50 seats as planning numbers. Write the roster you intend to keep. Invite will still accept a fourth on Free today. Choosing a plan: Free vs paid lanes is the envelope and Web Form story, not a seat lock.

The click-path

  1. Need an operator? Open /desk/team#invite. Copy inviteUrl if mail skips.
  2. Need a signature? Send an envelope. Copy signingUrl if mail skips.
  3. Do not open Billing to “unlock mail.” Checkout is not open and does not configure Resend.
  4. Do not Resend an envelope to invite a teammate. Do not invite a teammate to fix a quiet signer inbox.
  5. If the signing address was wrong, Correct that envelope — not a Team row.

On a phone, Team is in the desk menu — hamburger drawer. Documents is the list of envelopes. They are different rows in that drawer on purpose.

Caps and what is not open yet

A Team invite is not a send. Free allows 5 packets a month. Free at 5 packets a month is the live cap desk send, bulk rows, Web Form fills, and API send share. Hitting it returns HTTP 402 ENVELOPE_LIMIT. Starter is 20 envelopes — more than Free — plus 3 published Web Forms. Seat counts are planning numbers; invite does not refuse when a workspace is full.

Billing is published, not charging. Checkout is not open. Text-message (SMS) is coming soon. Drive missing: Drive not configured. Stripe off: Payments not live. Those flags do not turn a seat URL into a signing link. The FAQ and team help use Invite email was not sent and inviteUrl in the same words.

Invite the people who will send. Send envelopes to the people who will sign. Copy the URL that matches the object. Open a workspace on Free — see published pricing — or sign in and practice one Team invite and one throwaway send so both copy boxes are familiar before a real person waits on the wrong one.
