Free includes 1 published Web Form. Hitting a second publish returns HTTP 402 and names the plan limit. The free-plan sentence is The free plan allows 1 published Web Form. Disable one, or see Pricing. A fill that would be the 6th send this UTC month returns HTTP 402 ENVELOPE_LIMIT and The free plan has reached its monthly packet limit (5). Same HTTP status. Different gate. That is two-402 honesty: the first 402 is a live-slug ceiling, the second is a send counter, and checkout will not buy you out of either while billing is not open.
The published-form slot alone is Web Form Free published-form cap. The monthly counter is the Free plan 5-packet cap and what counts as an envelope. Disable versus delete is Web Form disable versus delete. Desk help is Docs. This guide is how to tell the two 402s apart.
Pricing lists both ceilings. The FAQ says extra published forms are what Starter grants, more envelopes than Free. Ask Inkpacket for Free published Web Form 402 versus envelope limit to open this article. Ask how to publish a web form to open the desk. Ask how envelope limits work to open billing help. Those phrases stay on the product screens. This article is the public version of which sentence you just read.
Which 402 you hit
- Publish while one slug is already live on Free — plan-limit 402. Not ENVELOPE_LIMIT. Disable one, or see Pricing.
- Desk send, bulk row, Web Form fill, or POST /api/v1/packets/:id/send at 5 — ENVELOPE_LIMIT. Wait for the next UTC month.
- A fill on the one live slug still counts as an envelope. The slug can be open and the month can still be full.
- A PIN lockout on that slug is HTTP 429. Too many incorrect access codes. Try again in 15 minutes. That is not a 402.
Do not disable a form because you hit ENVELOPE_LIMIT. Closing the slug stops new strangers. It does not refund the 5. It does not reopen send. Do not publish a twin slug to “pause” the first — that is the plan-limit 402, and people who bookmarked /form/SLUG will not follow you. Public form closed copy is what the stranger reads after Disable form.
Starter swaps the pair
Starter is 20 envelopes — more than Free — plus 3 published Web Forms. You get more live slugs and a larger monthly cap. A workspace that outgrows Free’s 5 still fits Starter’s 20. You pick Starter, once checkout is real, when a second and third public form matter and twenty sends is enough. Checkout is not open, so this workspace stays on Free’s 1 and 5. When Free is enough is that stay.
What each gate is not
- Not a missing feature. The second slug is a plan ceiling, not an unfinished screen.
- Not a seat refusal. Invite does not refuse when a workspace is full.
- Not a webhook failure. Envelope send still succeeds if a POST misses.
- Not Form closed. Form closed is disable. You chose that stop.
Growth is 100 envelopes and 10 published forms. Agency is 500 and 25. Those are planning numbers on a page that does not charge. Do not treat the ladder as a promise that this workspace will move tomorrow. Billing is published, not charging. workspace billing checkout is that button.
The click-path
- If publish returns 402 and names the plan limit, open the live form and Disable form — or stop.
- If a fill or send returns ENVELOPE_LIMIT, stop creating envelopes. Wait for the next UTC month.
- If the public page says Form closed, that is disable, not either 402.
- If unlock says Too many incorrect access codes, wait 15 minutes. That is 429.
- Do not open Checkout to clear a 402. Checkout does not sell a slot or a month.
On a phone, Web Forms and Billing are drawer rows. Ask Inkpacket for web forms on mobile or billing on mobile to open the screen. Help is Docs.
Caps and what is not open yet
Publish is not a send. A fill that already went out still counted. Free allows 5 packets a month. Free at 5 packets a month is the live cap desk send, bulk rows, Web Form fills, and API send share. Hitting it returns HTTP 402 ENVELOPE_LIMIT. Starter is 20 envelopes — more than Free — plus 3 published Web Forms. Seat counts are planning numbers; invite does not refuse when a workspace is full.
Billing is published, not charging. Checkout is not open. Text-message (SMS) is coming soon. Drive missing: Drive not configured. Stripe off: Payments not live. Those flags do not merge the two 402s or waive either gate. The FAQ and More on Web Forms use HTTP 402 and names the plan limit in the same words.
Read the sentence. Close the extra slug or wait for the month. File the fills you already have. Open a workspace on Free — see published pricing — and hit each 402 on a throwaway so two-402 honesty is a pair of messages you have already sorted.
