Workspace billing checkout
Inkpacket Billing at /desk/billing#checkout is not open. Checkout and the customer portal do not charge. Workspaces stay on Free. That is checkout honesty, not a live card form.
Open Billing and you will see a checkout card. It is not a card form. Checkout and the customer portal at /desk/billing#checkout are not open. The banner says Billing is published, not charging. Checkout and the customer portal are not open. Workspaces stay on Free. Live Stripe checkout stays off until charging is unlocked. This pass does not charge cards. That is checkout honesty: the lane names on Pricing are proposals, the desk is the same, and tapping Checkout does not move this workspace off Free.
The stay decision is when Free is enough. The published ladder is choosing a plan: Free vs paid lanes. The subtraction is Free vs Starter envelope math. In-envelope card collection is a different state — payments honesty. Desk help is Docs. This guide is the checkout control itself.
Pricing lists Free, Starter, Growth, and Agency. The FAQ says billing is published, not charging. Ask Inkpacket for workspace billing checkout to open this article. Ask how billing works to open help. Ask checkout to open Billing. Those phrases stay on the product screens. This article is the public version of why the button does not take a card.
What checkout does not do
- It does not open live card checkout.
- It does not change the workspace plan.
- It does not raise the monthly envelope cap.
- It does not add a second published Web Form slot.
The status card is /desk/billing#status. The current-plan card is /desk/billing#plan. Both stay on Free while charging is off. On a phone, Billing is a row in the desk menu — mobile desk hamburger menu map. Opening that row is not a purchase. Features lists the same desk without a paid unlock.
Not in-envelope payments
In-envelope payments sit on a send. They request an amount, a currency, and a description. When Stripe is off the desk and the signer see Payments not live. Signing still completes. Nobody is charged. That limit is Docs. Billing checkout is the plan page. Do not open Checkout to “turn on payments.” Do not open an envelope’s payment card to “upgrade the workspace.” Two screens. Neither charges.
What still enforces
A closed checkout does not mean unlimited sends. Free allows 5 packets a month. Free at 5 packets a month is the live cap desk send, bulk rows, Web Form fills, and API send share. Hitting it returns HTTP 402 ENVELOPE_LIMIT. The free-plan sentence is The free plan has reached its monthly packet limit (5). Send opens again at the start of the next UTC month. Checkout will not waive that 402. The Free plan 5-packet cap is that counter. What counts as an envelope is the unit.
A second live Web Form is a different 402. Free includes 1 published Web Form. Hitting a second publish returns HTTP 402 and names the plan limit — not ENVELOPE_LIMIT. Disable the form you have, or wait. That fork is Free published Web Form 402 versus envelope limit.
Seats are not checkout
Seat counts are planning numbers; invite does not refuse when a workspace is full. Free’s 1, Starter’s 3, Growth’s 10, and Agency’s 50 do not return a seat HTTP status. Do not open Billing because Team accepted a sixth person. Planning team seats is that missing gate.
The click-path
- Open Billing at /desk/billing. Read Billing is published, not charging.
- Open /desk/billing#checkout. Treat Checkout and the portal as not open.
- Do not enter a card. There is no live session to complete.
- Do not expect Starter, Growth, or Agency to apply on this workspace.
- Send on Free. Copy a signing link if mail skips. File the envelope.

Caps and what is not open yet
Opening checkout is not a send. Free allows 5 packets a month. Free at 5 packets a month is the live cap desk send, bulk rows, Web Form fills, and API send share. Hitting it returns HTTP 402 ENVELOPE_LIMIT. Starter is 20 envelopes — more than Free — plus 3 published Web Forms. Seat counts are planning numbers; invite does not refuse when a workspace is full.
Billing is published, not charging. Checkout is not open. Text-message (SMS) is coming soon. Drive missing: Drive not configured. Stripe off: Payments not live. Those flags do not turn the checkout card into a session or move the plan lane. The FAQ and More on plans and pricing use published, not charging in the same words.
Read the billing note. Stay on Free. File the envelopes you can send this UTC month. Open a workspace — see published pricing — and open Billing once so checkout honesty is a card you have already seen before someone asks why upgrade did nothing.
