After you upload a PDF on Documents → new, the field tool places signature, date, text, initials, checkbox, and select marks — Documents → new #fields. Assign each mark to a recipient slot. Checkboxes stamp an X when checked. That is checkbox-stamp honesty: a checked box is an X on the filed PDF, Suggest starting layout will not place a checkbox, and opening Billing will not “unlock a custom check glyph.”
Why a select waits for a second choice is why a select field needs two options. The type list is template field types overview. Why the starter ignores the printed line is why Suggest starting layout does not read the PDF. Desk help is Docs. This guide is why the checkbox mark is an X, and why that stamp is not a failed select.
The FAQ and field placement on Features name the six types. Ask Inkpacket for why a checkbox stamps an X to open this article. Ask how field types work to open help. Those phrases stay on the product screens. This article is the public version of Checkboxes stamp an X when checked — the string the desk already uses next to that mark.
What the X covers
- Checked stamps an X on the completed PDF. Unchecked leaves the box empty.
- A checkbox is one mark toward the 80-field ceiling. It is not a menu.
- Select is the other choice list. Select fields need at least two comma-separated options.
- Suggest starting layout places a signature, initials, and date. It does not place a checkbox.
Placing a checkbox is not a send. Sending the draft that used that mark is. Free allows 5 packets a month. A checked box does not return HTTP 402 ENVELOPE_LIMIT. Coordinates are stored as page percentages so the completed file receives the same layout. Required checkboxes block submit until they are checked. Do not mark an optional acknowledgment as required unless you mean it. Recipient slots stay 1–20.
What this is not
- Not a one-option select. Yes alone is not a menu. Use a checkbox for a yes/no stamp.
- Not a failed read. The PDF loaded. You still place the box yourself.
- Not a custom glyph. The filed copy stamps an X. Settings will not sell a different mark.
- Not checkout. Billing is not open. Paying a listed price does not change the X.
Assign the mark to a recipient slot. Drag it after you place it. Reminders go out by email today. Text-message (SMS) is coming soon. Email still soft-fails on the send, not on the stamp. Text-message (SMS) is coming soon. Drive archive waits for completed. Stripe off: Payments not live. None of those flags turn an X into a drawn check or invent a second checkbox style.
The click-path
- Open the field tool on a draft or a template. Place a checkbox where the signer should tick.
- If you needed a two-choice menu, use a select with two comma-separated options. Do not open Settings for a custom glyph.
- Assign the mark. Save the template or send the draft when the box is yours.
- If send returns HTTP 402 ENVELOPE_LIMIT, that is the monthly cap, not the X.
- On a phone, Documents or Templates is a drawer row. The stamp is still an X. Help is not a drawer row — it stays in the header.
Who each mark belongs to is assign fields to each signer on one envelope. Eighty marks is the other ceiling — why a template stops at 80 fields. Ask Inkpacket for why a checkbox stamps an X to open this article. Ask how field types work to open help. Ask place fields to open the send form.
Ask and the box
Ask Inkpacket for why a checkbox stamps an X to open this article. Ask how field types work to open help. Marketing Ask stays site Q&A and deep links. It will not place the box, change the glyph, or invent a second checkbox style from this article. Checked is an X. Your drag is the rest.
Caps and what is not open yet
Placing a checkbox is not a send. Send of a draft that used that mark is. Free allows 5 packets a month. Free at 5 packets a month is the live cap desk send, bulk rows, Web Form fills, and API send share. Hitting it returns HTTP 402 ENVELOPE_LIMIT. Starter is 20 envelopes — more than Free — plus 3 published Web Forms. Seat counts are planning numbers; invite does not refuse when a workspace is full.
Billing is published, not charging. Checkout is not open. Text-message (SMS) is coming soon. Drive missing: Drive not configured. Stripe off: Payments not live. Those flags do not change the X or hide the mark. The FAQ and FAQ use Checkboxes stamp an X when checked in the same words.
Place the box. Let them tick. Open a workspace on Free — see published pricing — and check a throwaway box so checkbox-stamp honesty is an X you already saw on the filed copy, not a Settings hunt for a custom glyph this pass does not ship.
