Template field types overview

An Inkpacket template holds signature, date, text, initials, checkbox, and select marks — up to 80 — assigned to recipient slots 1–20. Select needs two options. That is field-types-overview honesty, not a model that reads the PDF.

A workspace template is a PDF plus the field marks you placed on it. The marks are signature, date, text, initials, checkbox, and select. Assign each mark to a recipient slot (1–20). A template accepts 80 fields. Select fields need at least two comma-separated options. Checkboxes stamp an X when checked. Coordinates are stored as page percentages so the completed file receives the same layout. That is field-types-overview honesty: the types are the desk types, Use template copies them, and Inkpacket does not read the PDF or guess labels with a model.

Placing on a one-off is how to place signature fields on a PDF. Slots on a multi-signer envelope are assign fields to each signer. When to save the layout is templates versus one-off envelopes and templates that reuse field layouts. Desk help is Docs and Docs. This guide is the type list on a saved template.

The FAQ says initials, checkbox, and select. Features names the same set under field placement. Ask Inkpacket for template field types overview to open this article. Ask how do field types work to open help. Ask field types to open the fields section. Those phrases stay on the product screens. This article is the public version of what Use template copies.

The six types

  • Signature — the visible mark. Leave it for the signer. Fill via API is for known text, not this stamp.
  • Initials — the same rule. A Web Form filler completes signature and initials on the signing page, not on /form/SLUG.
  • Date — a date mark. Suggest starting layout places one with signature and initials on the last page.
  • Text — typed values. Match by fieldId or label if you POST /fill after you copy the template.
  • Checkbox — stamps an X when checked.
  • Select — at least two comma-separated options. Those options copy with the template.

Suggest starting layout places a signature, initials, and date for each recipient on the last page. That is a starting layout from page count and recipient count — not a model. You still move marks. You still set required. You still assign slots. Required fields block submit; do not mark optional notes as required unless you mean it.

What Use template copies

Use template copies the PDF and those marks — type, page, position, size, label, required, recipient slot, and select options — into a new draft. You pick signers and send from that draft. Saving a template does not count toward the monthly envelope cap. Sending the draft does. A send that would exceed it returns HTTP 402 ENVELOPE_LIMIT. Delete is blocked while a Web Form still uses that template. There is no separate template-count cap in this pass.

A Web Form filler enters required text, date, checkbox, and select fields plus name and email on the public page. Signature and initials wait for the signing link. If you publish a template that is only signature marks, the stranger still has to sign later — they cannot finish the envelope on the slug. Publish a Web Form from a template is that path.

What the overview is not

  • Not a field-detection API. The public API fill route sets values on marks you already placed.
  • Not qualified electronic signatures, notary, or knowledge-based authentication.
  • Not a CRM merge. Labels are yours. Inkpacket does not sync a contact record.
  • Not 80 envelopes. Eighty is the mark ceiling on one template.

Bulk send reuses the same layout. Each unique email gets its own envelope with those marks. Bulk send for HR and sales envelopes is that job. API workers POST a templateId, then fill, then send — API fill then send. Leave signature and initials for the person who opens the link.

The click-path

  1. Open Templates. Create at /desk/templates/new or edit /desk/templates/:id.
  2. Place the six types. Assign slots. Give select fields two or more options.
  3. Save. Saving is not a send.
  4. Use template, pick signers, send — or publish a Web Form from that layout.
  5. Do not expect Suggest starting layout to read the PDF.

On a phone, Templates is in the desk menu. Ask Inkpacket for templates on mobile to open the list. Help is Docs.

Caps and what is not open yet

Saving marks is not a send. Free allows 5 packets a month. Free at 5 packets a month is the live cap desk send, bulk rows, Web Form fills, and API send share. Hitting it returns HTTP 402 ENVELOPE_LIMIT. Starter is 20 envelopes — more than Free — plus 3 published Web Forms. Seat counts are planning numbers; invite does not refuse when a workspace is full.

Billing is published, not charging. Checkout is not open. Text-message (SMS) is coming soon. Drive missing: Drive not configured. Stripe off: Payments not live. Those flags do not add a seventh field type or read the PDF. The FAQ and FAQ use signature, date, text, initials, checkbox, and select in the same words.

Place the six types once. Copy them. Send the draft. Open a workspace on Free — see published pricing — and save a throwaway template so field-types-overview honesty is a layout you have reused before a real envelope needs the same marks again.
