Why This envelope has no fields to fill is not a published-form cap

Inkpacket returns This envelope has no fields to fill when API fill hits an envelope with zero marks. That is no-fields-fill honesty — not a Web Form cap, not checkout.

POST /api/v1/packets/:id/fill writes values onto marks that already exist. An envelope with zero fields returns This envelope has no fields to fill. Send of that same empty draft returns Place at least one field before sending. Those are two doors on the same missing layout. That is no-fields-fill honesty: fill needs a mark, send needs a mark, and opening Billing will not “grant a blank fill.”

Why a template with zero marks cannot publish is why a template with zero fields cannot publish. The intended create → fill → send loop is API fill then send. Why Save itself is not a send is why saving a template is not an envelope. Desk help is Docs. This guide is why fill names an envelope with no marks, and why that name is not a published-form 402.

The FAQ and API on Features keep fill on existing fields. Ask Inkpacket for why This envelope has no fields to fill is not a published-form cap to open this article. Ask how the API works to open help. Those phrases stay on the product screens. This article is the public version of This envelope has no fields to fill — the string help already uses next to fill.

What no fields covers

  • POST fill on an envelope with zero marks. This envelope has no fields to fill.
  • POST send on that same empty draft. Place at least one field before sending.
  • Provide at least one field value is different. Marks exist. The body was empty.
  • A template with zero fields still cannot publish a Web Form. That gate is publish, not fill.

Reading This envelope has no fields to fill is not a send. Filling is not a send. Free allows 5 packets a month. A refused fill does not return HTTP 402 ENVELOPE_LIMIT. Free includes 1 published Web Form. Starter grants extra published forms and more monthly envelopes than Free. A blank envelope does not burn a published-form slot. Field labeled X was not found on this envelope is a mark that exists under a different name. This envelope can no longer be edited is a closed status. Those strings are other doors. No marks is this door.

What this is not

  • Not a published Web Form cap. Free includes 1 published Web Form. This article is an envelope with zero marks.
  • Not Place at least one field on the template before publishing a Web Form. That string is publish.
  • Not Place at least one field on the template before bulk send. That string is the job start.
  • Not checkout. Billing is not open. Paying a listed price does not invent a mark for fill to write.

Place a signature, date, text, initials, checkbox, or select, then fill. Or start from a workspace template that already has marks. Reminders go out by email today. Text-message (SMS) is coming soon. Email still soft-fails on the later send, not on this 400. Text-message (SMS) is coming soon. Drive archive waits for completed. Stripe off: Payments not live. None of those flags write a value onto an envelope that has no box.

The click-path

  1. Create a draft from a template that already has marks, or PUT fields onto a one-off upload.
  2. If fill returns This envelope has no fields to fill, place a mark. Do not open Billing for a blank fill.
  3. If send then returns Place at least one field before sending, you still have zero marks. Place one.
  4. If send returns HTTP 402 ENVELOPE_LIMIT, that is the monthly cap, not the missing layout.
  5. On a phone, Documents or Settings is a drawer row. The 400 copy is the same. Help is not a drawer row — it stays in the header.

Who each mark belongs to is assign fields to each signer on one envelope. Eighty marks is the other ceiling — why a template stops at 80 fields. Ask Inkpacket for why This envelope has no fields to fill is not a published-form cap to open this article. Ask how the API works to open help. Ask place fields to open the send form.
