Why The stored PDF is empty is not a rejected upload

Inkpacket returns The stored PDF is empty when a zero-byte object already landed. That is empty-store honesty — not a picker refusal, not checkout.

After a successful upload the desk opens that envelope at /desk/documents/:id. Preview pages come from GET /api/documents/:id/file. A zero-byte stored object returns The stored PDF is empty. The picker already said yes. The envelope already exists. That is empty-store honesty: an accepted file later reads as zero bytes, the four picker refusals never created this row, and opening Billing will not “repair an empty object.”

The four picker refusals are why a rejected PDF upload is not an envelope. Why an unreachable bucket is a later no is why File storage is unavailable is not a rejected upload. Why pages are not a gate is why a PDF has no page-count cap. Desk help is Docs. This guide is why a zero-byte stored object names itself, and why that name is not the picker saying no first.

The FAQ and Features start from a PDF that actually landed. Ask Inkpacket for why The stored PDF is empty is not a rejected upload to open this article. Ask how file storage works to open help. Those phrases stay on the product screens. This article is the public version of The stored PDF is empty — the string help already uses next to the later store miss.

What empty covers

  • A zero-byte stored object. The stored PDF is empty. Re-upload a valid PDF on that same envelope.
  • A missing object later. The PDF could not be loaded from storage. That envelope already exists too.
  • An unreachable bucket. File storage is unavailable. The store is down. This article is a landed empty object.
  • A damaged row on Documents. This PDF could not be opened offers Upload another PDF. That is the list, not this preview string.

Reading The stored PDF is empty is not a send. The upload already created the envelope. Free allows 5 packets a month. A zero-byte preview does not return HTTP 402 ENVELOPE_LIMIT. Empty uploads at the picker return Upload a PDF file. Non-PDFs return Only PDF files are accepted. Unreadable bytes return This file could not be read as a PDF. Oversized files return PDF must be 15 MB or smaller. Those four strings never opened this row. Empty-store is the later read.

What this is not

  • Not Upload a PDF file. That is zero bytes at the door. No envelope.
  • Not File storage is unavailable. That string is an unreachable bucket.
  • Not The PDF could not be loaded from storage. That string is a missing object, not a zero-byte one.
  • Not checkout. Billing is not open. Paying a listed price does not refill an empty object.

Settings shows S3-compatible when S3_BUCKET, S3_ACCESS_KEY_ID, and S3_SECRET_ACCESS_KEY are set; optional S3_ENDPOINT points at R2 or another S3-compatible host. Otherwise Local fallback — uploads still work. GET /api/v1/health reports storage.configured and storage.backend. Health staying 200 does not refill a zero-byte object. Reminders go out by email today. Text-message (SMS) is coming soon. Email still soft-fails on the send, not on this preview. Text-message (SMS) is coming soon. Drive archive waits for completed. Stripe off: Payments not live. None of those flags count an empty preview toward the monthly cap.

The click-path

  1. Open the envelope. If preview says The stored PDF is empty, re-upload a valid PDF on that same envelope.
  2. If the picker names empty, non-PDF, unreadable, or oversize, that is a different no. Fix the file before you create a row.
  3. If preview says File storage is unavailable, the bucket is down. That is not this empty object.
  4. If send returns HTTP 402 ENVELOPE_LIMIT, that is the monthly cap, not the empty store.
  5. On a phone, Documents is a drawer row. The empty-store string is the same. Help is not a drawer row — it stays in the header.

Where a good file lands is where uploaded PDFs are stored. Settings card: Settings storage: S3 versus local. Ask Inkpacket for why The stored PDF is empty is not a rejected upload to open this article. Ask how file storage works to open help. Ask upload a pdf to open Documents → new.

Ask and the empty object

Ask Inkpacket for why The stored PDF is empty is not a rejected upload to open this article. Ask how file storage works or what does file storage unavailable mean to open help. Marketing Ask stays site Q&A and deep links. It will not refill a zero-byte object, split a PDF, or increment the monthly cap from this article. The picker already said yes. Re-upload on that same id.
