Why only sent envelopes can use void, correct, or resend

Void envelope, Correct recipient, and Resend signing email sit on Envelope admin on a sent document. These actions keep the same envelope id — they do not mint a second envelope. Only SENT envelopes can use them. Completed, expired, and draft envelopes hide those controls. Already-voided and declined ids refuse the same way. That is sent-only-admin honesty: a draft is not mid-flight, a filed copy is not an in-flight envelope, and opening Billing will not “unlock void on a draft.”

What SENT means

• A draft has no signing link yet. There is nothing to void, no outstanding inbox to correct, and no invite to resend.
• A sent envelope has at least one live signing or embed URL. Envelope admin can stop it, fix the outstanding recipient, or send the same link again.
• Completed envelopes are filed. The stamped PDF and audit already exist. Completed envelopes cannot be changed.
• Expired, declined, and already-voided ids are closed. The links already died. Those statuses are not a second void.

Treat status as the gate, not the plan lane. Free allows 5 packets a month. The send that moved the draft to SENT already counted. Void, correct, and resend do not increment the monthly cap — they keep the same envelope id. A draft you never sent never counted. Deleting a draft is not a void. Saving a template is not a send. What this is not

• Not a Free-plan tease. Checkout does not sell “void a draft.” Send first, or do not expect Envelope admin.

• Not decline. Decline is the signer’s verb on a live signing page. A draft has no signing page.
• Not a rotate. Resend on a sent envelope keeps the token. There is no resend on a draft because there is no token yet.

The click-path

1. If the document is still a draft, place fields, add recipients, and send. Envelope admin appears after status is SENT.
2. If you only needed to stop a draft, do not hunt for Void. A draft was never invited.
3. If the envelope is completed, download the stamped PDF. Do not open Billing to “reopen admin.”
4. If the envelope expired or declined, send a new envelope if the work still needs a signature. This id is closed.
5. On a phone, Documents is a drawer row. Envelope admin on a sent envelope is still void, correct, or resend — drafts still hide those verbs.

Correct on a sent envelope changes a signer who has not signed. It does not move field marks. Fields and routing are locked at send.
