Why expired is not voided

When an Inkpacket signing window ends, status becomes expired. That is not a void and not a cancel. Envelope admin will not reopen it. That is expired-not-voided honesty — send a new envelope if the work still needs a mark.

After the expiration window ends, the desk shows expired status. The signer sees This signing link has expired. Embed uses the same token and the same close. Envelope admin cannot void, correct, or resend that envelope. That is expired-not-voided honesty: the window ended; nobody cancelled; the envelope id stays put with a different verb than Void envelope, and you cannot un-expire it from the same row.

How to pick the window is how to choose an envelope expiry. Cadence versus that window is reminder cadence versus envelope expiry. How the document list ages is document list aging and status honesty. Desk help is Docs. This guide is why expired is not a cancel you can undo.

The FAQ says expired envelopes cannot be voided, corrected, or resent. Features names the window under reminders. Ask Inkpacket for expired is not voided to open this article. Ask how does expiration work or what is envelope expiry to open help. Those phrases stay on the product screens. This article is the public version of why Void envelope is missing after the clock ran out.

What expired means

  • Status is expired. The hourly cron marks overdue SENT envelopes so the list stays honest.
  • The token is dead for signing. Opening it shows This signing link has expired. Not This signing link was voided.
  • Reminders stop. A scheduled nudge will not go out after expiry.
  • Envelope admin hides void, correct, and resend. Those verbs are for SENT envelopes.

Expiration is enforced when someone opens or submits the signing link, and the hourly job marks the row so you do not keep a SENT badge on a dead window. That is list-aging, not a silent void. Void is a sender stop on an in-flight envelope — and void does not email the signer. Expiry is the window ending. Nobody clicked Void envelope. Tell outstanding people out of band if they still think the link is live.

What you cannot do

  • Void it to “clean up.” Expired envelopes return This envelope has expired.
  • Correct the recipient on this id. The outstanding inbox is finished on this envelope.
  • Resend the same token. There is no live signing URL left to share.
  • Un-expire from Settings. Cadence defaults apply to the next send, not this row.

If the work still needs a signature, send a new envelope from the PDF or template. Count it. That new send can set a longer window — or set expiration to 0 so the link does not expire — expiration 0 means the link does not expire. Do not open checkout hoping a paid lane will revive the old token. Billing is published, not charging.

Void, decline, and complete

A voided envelope says This signing link was voided. A declined envelope says This envelope was declined. A completed envelope is the filed PDF — completed envelopes cannot be voided. Expired is the fourth close. Do not treat the four as one badge. The audit log records expired as its own event. A workspace or per-packet webhook can fire expired on that same envelope id. Treat it as a close, not as “nudge them again on this URL.”

If someone already signed before the window ended, expiry still closes the rest. That is not an un-sign. Partial-then-expired is a trail, not a resume. If you needed to stop collection before the clock, void while status is still sent — void after a partial sign versus decline. After expiry you missed that verb.

The click-path

  1. Open the document. If status is expired, do not hunt for Void envelope.
  2. If the work is off, leave it expired. Tell people out of band.
  3. If the work still needs a mark, send a new envelope. Set the window on that send.
  4. If you only had the wrong email and the envelope is still sent, correct now — before expiry.
  5. On a phone, Documents is a drawer row. Expiration is a send-form field, not a Billing unlock.

Ask Inkpacket for expired is not voided to open this article. Ask what happens at expiry to open help. Marketing Ask stays site Q&A and deep links. It will not void, extend, or resend an expired envelope from this article.

Caps and what is not open yet

Expiry is not a send. The send that created the envelope already counted. Free allows 5 packets a month. Free at 5 packets a month is the live cap desk send, bulk rows, Web Form fills, and API send share. Hitting it returns HTTP 402 ENVELOPE_LIMIT. Starter is 20 envelopes — more than Free — plus 3 published Web Forms. Seat counts are planning numbers; invite does not refuse when a workspace is full.

Billing is published, not charging. Checkout is not open. Text-message (SMS) is coming soon. Drive missing: Drive not configured. Stripe off: Payments not live. Those flags do not un-expire an envelope or turn expired into voided. The FAQ and More on reminders use Expired is not voided and not a cancel in the same words.

Let the window end. File expired if that is what happened. Send a new envelope when the work is still on. Open a workspace on Free — see published pricing — and watch one throwaway hit the cron so expired-not-voided honesty is a missing Void button you have already looked for, not a cancel you hoped Settings would undo.
